Two papers presented at the 9th European conference on Energy Markets

The European Energy Market conference (EEM) has achieved a considerable success over the past eight years. Its main topics covers electricity and gas market policies, security of supply, climate change and many other developments at a European level. In May 2012 this event was hosted in Florence, Italy, by the Florence School of Regulation and the Loyola de Palacio Chair (two linked research units at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies at the European University Institute). I contributed to this event with the following two works:
- Optimal electricity market bidding strategies considering emission allowances
- Optimal sizing of microgrids: a fast charging station case
Both works will be published as full papers in the conference's proceedings that will be published by the IEEE.
VII Conference Barcelona Global Energy Challenges

Last June 28 and 29 I was attending the Barcelona Global Energy Challenges . It was the seventh edition of a forum co-organized by the MIT Industrial Liason Program (MITILP), the Institute for the Energy Research of Catalonia (IREC) and the b_TEC foundation (b_TEC). During the poster session my student Lucia Gonzalez presented the results of her MSc Thesis Optimal Management of Microgrids, developped at the IREC in collaboration with the GNOM-Energy research group
New research period recognized

I have just been informed that a new six years period of my research activity (sexenio de investigación) has been recognized by the National Comission for the Evaluation of the Research Activity of the Spanish Gouvernment (CNEAI). This is my third research period so far recognized .

El passat 25 d'abril es va cel·lebrar la V Jornada MET-MEIO organitzada per la Comissió Permanent del Màster d'Estadística i Investigació Operativa UPC-UB , i de la que en vaig ser coordinador per segon any. L'objectiu d'aquesta jornada és posar en contacte als alumnes del màster amb diverses empreses i institucions per tal que hi puguin realitzar el treball final de màster. La jornada va comptar amb la participació de 12 empreses/institucions amb 14 projectes proposats. Contribution to the 9th International Conference on Computational Management Science

The CMS conference is an annual meeting associated with the journal of Computational Management Science published by Springer. The aim of this conference is to provide a forum for theoreticians and practitioners from academia and industry to exchange knowledge, ideas and results in a broad range of topics relevant to the theory and practice of computational methods, models and empirical analysis for decision making in economics, engineering, finance and management. I was invited to contribute in this conference with the work "Optimal sale bid for a wind producer in Spanish electricity market through stochastic programming ", based on the master thesis of Ms. Simona Sacripante , graduated student of the Master in Statistics and Operations Research, who presented the paper. This work has been partially granted by the public research project DPI2008-02153 of the Spanish gouvernment.
Vicedegà de la Facultat de Matemàtiques i Estadística

A partir de l'1 d'Abril he passat a ocupar el càrrec de Vicedegà de la Facultat de Matemàtiques i Estadística com a membre de l'equip directiu del Degà Jordi Quer. Les meves funcions seran les de cap d'estudis del Grau Interuniversitari en Estadística impartit conjuntament per la Facultat de Matemàtiques i Estadística de la UPC i la Facultat d'Economía i Empresa de la UB.
Comissió VERIFICA del Màster d'Estadística i Investigació Operativa UPC/UB

El passat 2 de Desembre es va possar en marxa la comissió encarregada de l'adaptació del Màster d'Estadística i Investigació Operativa UPC-UB al nou decret de regulació de màsters oficials (Real Decreto 861/2010, de 2 de julio ) (Comissió VERIFICA-MEIO). Pertanyo a aquesta comissió com a membre de la Comissió Permanent del MEIO , nomenat per l'OrgMEIO. La comissió es reunirà cada 2-3 setmanes i té previst tenir a punt el document Verifica del màster a finals d'aquest curs 2011-12 per tal de poder començar la seva implantació el curs 2012-13.
Tesi de màster sobre optimització de producció eòlica en mercats elèctrics.

El passat dimecres 16 de març es va presenta a la Facultat de Matemàtiques i estadística el treball de final de màster titulat Optimal sale bid for a wind producer in Spanish electricity market realitzat per l'alumna Simona Sacripante, del Màster d'Estadística i Investigació Operativa UPC-UB, que he dirigit en col·laboració amb la prof. Cristina Corchero. En aquest treball s'estudia, mitjançant un model de programació estocàstica, l'estratègia òptima d'oferta d'un parc de generació eòlica al mercat diari del MIBEL. Aquest treball forma part del projecte de recerca del MICINN DPI2008-02153.
Jornada d'Interacció Matemàtica-Indústria

El passat 30 de Novembre vaig assistir en la Jornada d'Interacció Matemàtica-Indústria al Parc de Recerca UAB, organitzada per la Xarxa Espanyola Matemàtica - Indústria (math-in.net), el projecte i-Math, Parc i Recerca UAB i els grups d'investigació Servei de Consultoria Matemàtica i Grup d'Investigació en Aplicacions i Models Matemàtics (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona). En aquesta jornada, les empreses convidades van presentar diversos problemes susceptibles de ser resolts amb mètodes Matemàtics, Estadístics i de Simulació Numèrica, que van ser analitzats pels investigadors assistents.
